After 15 minutes of reading silently, students completed one box of the reading record. Measures of comprehension and writing fluency were completed, scored, and recorded in the blue binder. Materials were returned to the blue binders from the conference portfolios.
After fifteen minutes of reading and completing one box of the reading record, students went to the media center to record their grades and missing assignments. Afterwards, students learned and practiced vocabulary on the vocabulary website posted in the google classroom for the article "Brainy Echidna."

Reading Record due today. Pilgrims Crossword for credit. In class only. Homework for weekend: Take a "shelfie:" A shelfie is a picture of a person with reading material, the reading material title and the face or part of the face. Students may also take shelfies of family or friends not in the eighth grade for credit. Maximum allowed extra credit: 10 Reading material should be a recommendation and different material for different people. Email shelfies to me at [email protected]. Read two times and T4 the article. Answer the questions, remembering to use complete sentences and identify the paragraph where the answer is. Handout available in the second semester folder of the HANDOUTS button above. Anything not finished in class is HOMEWORK.
We took notes on what makes a good topic sentence. We read for 15 minutes and recorded on the reading record. We also reviewed Pathos, Ethos, and Logos.
Today, students completed a 3 minute write and 3 minute maze (comprehension) to measure their growth in those two areas. Students then set goals for next time. The Improbable French Leader in America is due today. Any student who had not completed the New Debate: Password Protected packet was assigned lunch lab. As always we also read for 15 minutes and completed one reading record for today.
They will get their grades recorded. All work will be returned. Students will finish a reading packet with questions (T4) called "The Improbable Frenchman." Students will read and record on the record sheet. 4th and 6th turned theirs in last week and will get a new one today, 2nd and 3rd will complete and turn theirs in today. MOST students have this for homework!!!
Students were asked to edit their title pages, travel journals, and works cited page. Then they were to print them and turn in. I had proofread and commented on every paper turned in on google classroom to get them going. then students were to practice vocabulary on a vocabulary site with words I had entered as words they need to know for an upcoming reading.
